Unlike most things in life, the goal of getting pregnant isn’t usually achieved by more planning, more research, and “trying harder”. While these strategies are great for other obstacles in life, they fall short for women struggling with infertility.
Over time, most women struggling with fertility feel exhausted, dispirited and often down right depressed. Acupuncture and Chinese medicine can help by itself or in conjunction with IUI or IVF.
Acupuncture provides infertility & fertility support first by providing relaxation and the reduction of cortisol levels. Cortisol is a hormone your body produces under stress. Reducing stress is critical to both conception as well as maintaining a pregnancy to term. Acupuncture can also increase blood flow to the lower pelvic region, thus thickening the endometrium making conception more likely.
I often stress to patients getting pregnant is not the goal. The goal is a baby. So to that end, I keep a patient coming for weekly visits
until she hears the baby’s heartbeat for the first time or even until the end of the first trimester.
After that, she will come for monthly visits, or as needed, to soothe some of the discomforts of pregnancy such as constipation, nausea, back aches or leg cramps. While I focus on her symptoms, I never stray from my focus of keeping her energy strong to help reduce the chance of a miscarriage.
